Mike Majkowski, born 1983, is a double bassist from Sydney, Australia.
He began his musical activities as a jazz bassist, and has since developed an active interest in a wide spectrum of contemporary music. Mike is a long time devotee of the experimental music community in Sydney, is a member of the large-scale Sydney-based electro-acoustic improvisational group ‘The Splinter Orchestra,’ and has curated for the NOWnow improvised music concert series.

Mike collaborates with some of Australia’s most highly regarded improvisers: Jon Rose, Jim Denley, Chris Abrahams, Amanda Stewart, Clayton Thomas, Clare Cooper, Robbie Avenaim, Martin Ng. In other parts of the world, Mike has performed with other highly regarded improvisers, including: Axel Doerner, Han Bennink, Paul Lovens, Wilbert de Joode, Toby Delius, Steve Heather, Michael Thieke.

He has recently been focusing on solo playing, and is currently exploring how the use of refined extended techniques develops the sound and style of the work.
