He has developed a specific approach to tuba playing, treating the instrument as an air-powered electronics studio. His compositions reveal a precise and focused use of noise and an exploration of just intonation and microtonal tuning systems. Along with doing solo work he is active as an improviser and plays in numerous contemporary music ensembles.
