Denman Maroney
Denman Maroney is an American pianist and composer whose distinctive 'hyperpiano' technique extends the instrument far beyond conventional keyboard playing. Using bars, bowls, mallets, rubber, plastic objects and other devices, he directly bows, slides, plucks and strikes the strings while also performing at the keyboard.
He has developed an equally personal approach to overlapping rhythms, which he describes as temporal harmony. His collaborations include Leroy Jenkins, Mark Dresser, Ned Rothenberg and many other creative musicians. Since moving to France in 2020, he has continued recording solo and ensemble music. Creative Sources documents his piano work on Itinerant (CS472) with Stephen Flinn and Michael Lytle.
