Dirk Marwedel
Dirk Marwedel is a German improviser and saxophonist whose practice is dedicated to extended instrumental techniques, preparations and new forms of acoustic expression. Active in freely improvised music since the mid-1980s, he has developed methods that take the saxophone beyond its conventional vocabulary.
Marwedel is also trained as a stone sculptor, and his interdisciplinary work explores the relationship between physical materials, sound and instrumental performance. His collaborations include encounters with vocalist Jaap Blonk and percussionist Michael Vorfeld. Creative Sources documents his extended saxophone playing on CS402 and CS682, representing his distinctive approach to instrumental resonance, articulation and texture.
