Gunter Pretzel

Gunter Pretzel is a violist credited on Kontergesang (CS571), an experimental recording released by Creative Sources. His instrument contributes the warm middle-register resonance of bowed strings to an ensemble language built around interaction, timbre and spontaneous structure.

The viola can move between sustained acoustic colours, melodic fragments and less conventional articulations produced through bow pressure and contact with the strings. In freely improvised music, these details become an independent source of form rather than part of a fixed orchestral arrangement.
