Joker Nies

Joker Nies is a German electronic musician, sound designer, photographer and instrument builder based in Cologne. Since the early 1980s he has worked with analogue synthesisers, modified electronics and circuit-bent sound devices, creating performance setups that invite direct physical interaction.

He founded the studio KlangBureau and has worked on radio and sound-design projects, including productions associated with WDR and Deutschlandfunk. His workshops introduce musicians to circuit-bending and creative electronics. On Creative Sources releases, his use of customised instruments and electronic processing adds an unpredictable palette of signals, textures and rhythmic sound.
