Joana Sá
Joana Sá is a Portuguese pianist, composer and sound artist whose work connects contemporary composition, improvisation and interdisciplinary performance. Her music explores the piano's acoustic and mechanical possibilities, often bringing prepared objects, electronics and changing performance situations into dialogue.
She has participated in ensembles including Powertrio with Eduardo Raon and Luís Martins, and develops solo and collaborative projects involving music, movement and visual art. Creative Sources released What We Think When We Walk and What We Walk While Thinking (CS147), documenting the trio's use of piano, toy piano, harp, electronics and guitar. Her playing moves fluidly between written structures and spontaneous invention.
