Jan Roder
Jan Roder is a German double bassist and improviser born in 1968, active in Berlin's free-jazz and experimental-music communities. His playing combines precise rhythmic energy, flexible melodic ideas and an extended vocabulary of bowed and plucked sounds.
He has performed with pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach, saxophonist Rudi Mahall and many other creative musicians, including collaborations within the groups Die Enttäuschung and Monk's Casino. His recordings range from free improvisation to interpretations of Thelonious Monk. Creative Sources documents his contribution to collaborative music where the bass moves freely between rhythmic structure and independent acoustic exploration.
