Laurie Batista is a French vocalist, improviser, author and composer whose work treats the voice as an instrument in its own right. Trained in classical piano and theatre before studying jazz at the conservatory, she works across improvised music, contemporary jazz and multidisciplinary performance.
Her projects include Les Humanophones, Ensemble UN and work with Cie Emilbus, alongside collaborations combining music, dance and theatre. In her solo practice she moves between acoustic and electronic sound, song, improvisation and performance, exploring the relationship between intimate experience, public space and the many physical possibilities of the voice.
