Lothar Ohlmeier
Lothar Ohlmeier is a German saxophonist and clarinetist whose work moves between jazz, contemporary composition and free improvisation. He plays tenor saxophone, clarinet and bass clarinet, developing a broad range of tone, phrasing and acoustic texture over a career spanning more than three decades.
His international collaborations include Ingrid Laubrock, Julie Sassoon, Jim Black, Benoît Delbecq, Jaap Blonk and Jorrit Dijkstra. Creative Sources documents his tenor saxophone in Studioboerne (CS607). Across solo, chamber and ensemble contexts, Ohlmeier explores relationships between written material, spontaneous musical decisions and the physical qualities of reed instruments.
