Martine Altenburger is a French cellist whose work brings contemporary written music into direct contact with improvisation. After studies at the conservatories of Le Mans, Versailles and Boulogne-Billancourt with Michel Strauss, she moved to Toulouse, where she contributed to La Flibuste, an association devoted to contemporary improvised music.
In 2006 she co-founded the ensemble ]h[iatus with percussionist Lê Quan Ninh. Based in the Creuse region since 2007, she has continued to develop projects around contemporary music and improvisation, including the Épicentre project and Le Bruit de la Musique festival, and remains an active member of the large improvising orchestra ONCEIM.
