Markus Schmickler

Markus Schmickler is a German experimental composer and electronic musician associated with Cologne's adventurous music scene. His practice connects computer music, electroacoustic improvisation, spatial sound installations and composition informed by scientific and perceptual phenomena.

He has explored algorithmic processes, complex tuning relationships and the intersection of electronic and acoustic sound. Working as a solo artist and collaborator, he has also contributed to independent record labels and experimental ensembles. Creative Sources released Sator Rotas (CS109), documenting this approach to electronics and composition. The album forms part of a wider body of work concerned with how sound is organised, produced and perceived.
