Rodrigo Pinheiro

Rodrigo Pinheiro is a pianist, improviser and composer based in Lisbon, active in experimental music and free jazz for more than two decades. He began studying music at the age of five in Covilhã and later developed his improvisational approach through encounters with Carlos Zíngaro, Peter Kowald and other musicians.

A founding member of RED Trio with Hernâni Faustino and Gabriel Ferrandini, he has collaborated with John Butcher, Axel Dörner, Nate Wooley, Joe McPhee and Peter Evans. He also composes for film and theatre and founded Phonogram Unit in 2022. His Creative Sources recordings document an approach that connects acoustic piano resonance, energy and spontaneous ensemble interaction.
