Roland Ramanan

Creative Sources artist · trumpet

Roland Ramanan is a British trumpeter and improviser born in London in 1966. The son of jazz trumpeter Shake Keane, he became involved in London's experimental-music scene in the late 1980s, attending workshops with Phil Wachsmann and John Stevens.

He co-founded the improvising group Swift and has performed with Maggie Nicols, Eddie Prévost, Marcio Mattos and members of the London Improvisers Orchestra. His trumpet playing moves between melodic phrasing and the exploration of breath, timbre and spontaneously developed musical relationships. Creative Sources documents his work on New (CS362), extending his participation in collective free improvisation.
