Seijiro Murayama

Seijiro Murayama is a Japanese percussionist and improviser born in Nagasaki in 1957, whose work explores relationships between percussion, voice, physical action and silence. Having spent many years in Europe, particularly in France, he developed a distinctive performance language that treats sound and the conditions of listening as equally important.

His collaborations include artists from experimental music, dance and performance art, often involving close examination of space, breath, texture and duration. His Creative Sources recordings document his contribution to the international improvised-music scene, where sound emerges from precise and sometimes minimal physical gestures.
