Simon Rose

Simon Rose is a British baritone saxophonist, improviser, composer and author known for his exploration of the instrument's extreme registers and subtle timbral possibilities. Based in Berlin for part of his career, he has performed in small ensembles, large improvising groups and cross-disciplinary projects.

His improvisation often draws on the physical relationship between instrument, breath and resonance, shifting from low sustained sounds to overtones and intricate articulated gestures. He has collaborated internationally and published writing about music, learning and improvisational practice. Creative Sources documents his work within the European improvised-music community.
