Sylvain Monchoce
Sylvain Monchocé is a French multi-instrumentalist and improviser who performs on flute, saxophones, gayageum and daegeum. His work brings together free improvisation, extended instrumental techniques and a sustained curiosity about the limits of acoustic sound. Breath, multiphonics and unstable timbres are central to his performance practice.
He studied flute in Mons and improvisation in Basel, where his musical encounters included Fred Frith, Andrea Neumann and Alfred Zimmerlin. His Creative Sources album Quark (CS866) documents a trio with Jung-Jae Kim and Stephen Flinn, bringing reeds and percussion into a continuously changing musical dialogue.
