Thomas Rohrer
Thomas Rohrer is a Swiss-born saxophonist and improviser whose musical life has connected European free improvisation with Brazilian musical traditions. He is particularly associated with soprano saxophone and rabeca, a traditional bowed instrument used in northeastern Brazil.
His projects involve instrumental experimentation, regional musical practices and encounters with musicians working in jazz, contemporary composition and freely improvised performance. He has developed a wide network of collaborations between Switzerland and Brazil. Creative Sources recordings document his interest in unusual timbral combinations and musical forms that arise through exchange rather than from fixed stylistic conventions.
