Wolfgang Schliemann

Germany · percussion & improvisation

Wolfgang Schliemann is a German percussionist, improviser, performer and composer born in 1956. Active as a freelance musician since 1978, he approaches percussion through both its rhythmic possibilities and the detailed sonic qualities of an expanding collection of instruments and objects.

He co-founded the Wiesbaden musicians' cooperative New Jazz in 1979, ARTist in 1983 and the HumaNoise Congress in 1987. His work spans solo, duo, ensemble and orchestra projects as well as collaborations with dance, theatre, film and visual art. Creative Sources documents his participation in experimental improvisation, reflecting a sustained interest in space, acoustic materials and interdisciplinary performance.
